Voigt, Kirkeeide, Johansen and Magnusson Lead Sunday Super Sprint Qualifiers
Germany’s Vanessa Voigt, Norway’s Maren Kirkeeide and Marthe Krakstad Johansen and Sweden’s Anna Magnusson topped this morning’s women’s qualifying heats for Sunday afternoon’s Loop One Super Sprint Final. Scheduled for 15:45 CET. Saturday’s Super Sprint winner Oceane Michelon and second place Elvira Oeberg failed to qualify for today’s final.
The first heat found Voigt shooting clean for the win, followed by Italy’s Lisa Vittozzi and France’s Paula Botet. Olympic Sprint Champion Kirkeeide easily won the second heat with a single penalty, with Switzerland’s Amy Baserga and Sweden’s Johanna Skottheim the two other automatic qualifiers. Saturday’s Super Sprint second place Elvira Oeberg picked up five penalties, failing to advance.
The morning’s biggest surprise came in the third heat. Olympic Champion and Saturday’s winner Oceane Michelon failed to qualify after three prone penalties dropped her from contention. Johansen won the heat, followed by Finland’s Suvi Minkkinen and Germany’s Julia Tannheimer.
The final heat was the fastest of the day with Anna Magnusson shooting clean for the win with the French duo of Amandine Mengin and Julia Simon second and third.
Two of the three “lucky losers” with the next fastest times came from this last heat led by Slovakia’s Ema Kapustova and Latvia’s Baiba Bendika. Germany’s Johanna Puff from heat three claimed the last qualifying spot.
