IBU prepares for landmark Congress in Belgrade

The 16th Ordinary IBU Congress will convene in Belgrade, Serbia on 26-29 September 2024 and is set to feature a number of key decisions including the selection of World Championships hosts, changes and amendments to the IBU Constitution and the approval of IBU’s Target 2030 strategic plan.

The Congress will elect the hosts of the World Championships Biathlon in 2028 and 2029. The IBU has received applications from three world-class biathlon venues, Hochfilzen (Austria), Kontiolahti (Finland), and Oslo-Holmenkollen (Norway), who will present to the Congress prior to the elections.

The IBU Congress will further receive the final report of Target 26, following its successful implementation over the last five years, and will be presented with Target 2030 – the latest strategic step forward to achieve the IBU’s ambitious objectives. Target 2030 has been developed in collaboration with the biathlon family to ensure its far-reaching targets are driven by, and fully aligned with, the priorities of the IBU’s National Federations and stakeholders.

In addition, the updated budget for 2024/2025 and budget frames for 2025/2026 will be presented, motions seeking amendments to the Constitution and Rules will be presented and the members of the Biathlon Integrity Unit (BIU) Board will be approved.

On the eve of the Congress, the biathlon family will take part in Congress workshops with three parallel sessions. On the morning of the Congress itself, there will be keynotes and panel discussions focused on pressing subjects for biathlon and the sports world.
