The Para Biathlon Working Group will serve as an advisory body to the Executive Board. Comprised of a maximum of seven appointed members—ensuring a gender-balanced and geographically diverse representation—the group brings together experienced professionals from the world of Para Biathlon representing IBU's National Federation members.
Their collective expertise will help shape the future of Para Biathlon, making it a more prominent and competitive discipline on the international stage.
One of the primary tasks of the Working Group is to provide expert recommendations for evolving the Sport and Event Rules for Para Biathlon. Working with the IBU Technical Committee, the group will ensure that these rules align with the IBU's Technical Rules while addressing the specific needs of Para athletes.
Beyond the regulatory framework, the Working Group will play a pivotal role in strategic development. By collaborating with commissions such as the IBU Development Commission, the DEI Working Group, and the IBU Academy, they will work to break down barriers to entry and provide a clear pathway for aspiring Para Biathletes.
The IBU invites National Federations to nominate experts to the Para Biathlon Working. Candidates do not need to be directly employed by the National Federation but should have expertise in para sports.
The Working Group will initially operate from May 2025 – November 2026.
Members will meet at least twice a year, either virtually or in person.
Positions in the working group are voluntary; members will not be financially compensated.
