Famous for never wearing gloves during competitions, Sven Fischer won the BMW IBU World Cup Total Score title in the 1996/1997 and 1998/1999 seasons. He is a Sprint Olympic champion from the Olympic Winter Games Torino 2006. Fischer also won a Sprint silver at the Olympic Winter Games Salt Lake City 2022, a bronze in the individual in Lillehammer 1994, and a pursuit in Torino 2006. He is a World champion in the Individual and Mass start from Kontiolahti 1999 IBU World Championships. Fischer won 33 times in the BMW IBU World Cup and collected six discipline titles. A man of strong beliefs who always carved out a largely independent path, Fischer had the most emotional day during the IBU World Championships 2004 in Oberhof on 13 February 2004, when he took a third leg in the Gold-winning German men’s relay team and then rushed to the hospital where his future wife Doreen gave birth to their daughter Emilia Sophie. Since retiring in 2007, Sven Fischer has been a sought-after ZDF expert. While still competing at the highest level, Fischer started giving exciting lectures, pointing out the parallels and similarities between the worlds of sport and work.
