IBU Cup Day Off: Sliding & Rolling on Snow…Fat Tire Bike vs. Skis
Not every day is filled with training, travel or competition on the IBU Cup and the World Cup circuit; some days are just for stepping back and having some fun. Last week, Canadians Carsen Campbell and Pearce Hanna spent a sunny afternoon at Martell, racing each other…electric fat tire bike versus cross-country skis.
Formula 1 on Snow
Anyone who thinks the obvious winner is the man on wheels assisted by a small electric motor might be surprised how closely matched they were. The hard packed artificial snow crunched and flew; the laps around the stadium and up a couple of hills looked a bit like Formula 1 on snow. The two stayed surprisingly close, like a pursuit competition with no shooting. However, Campbell, on skis, admitted, “I could corner better and get some distance on the uphills, but on the downhills and flat…he just dusted me!”
Their fun day on the snow is recorded for posterity, in our video, “IBU Cup Day Off: Sliding & Rolling on Snow…Fat Tire Bike vs. Skis."
