IBU Congress: New IBU Executive Board Sets Course for Institutional Reforms

Poreč , 09 September 2018: The IBU Executive Board gathered for its constitutive meeting in Poreč immediately after the 13th Regular IBU Congress ended today.

The Executive Board, which was chaired by new IBU President Olle Dahlin for the first time, wasted no time in starting implementing the reforms which the IBU Congress has tasked them with. Clare Egan, Chair of the IBU Athletes’ Committee and now a fully voting member of the Executive Board following an amendment of the IBU Constitution passed just yesterday, joined the meeting by video call.

The new Board agreed to start the review of the IBU Constitution as soon as possible. In order to do so, a group of Executive Board members will propose the members of the review committee by the next board meeting. The body also discussed requirements for the amended Code of Ethics such as in particular the need to install three independent members on the new IBU Ethics Commission in addition to the ex officio IBU members. The IBU will also start looking for suitable candidates to fill the position of the Independent IBU Ethics and Compliance Officer.

The Executive Board also discussed reaching out to the Russian Biathlon Federation with the offer of a dialogue with RBU.

Moreover, the Board held initial discussions regarding the distribution of responsibilities within the Executive Board and strategic organizational planning. Plans for a project to foster female leadership within IBU member federations and coaching were also deliberated.

In order to show its commitment to all levels and athletes of biathlon a representative of the Executive Board will be present at the opening of every IBU event series – BMW IBU World Cup, IBU Cup and Junior Cup.

The next Executive Board Meeting will be held on 04 November 2018 in Lausanne.
