Super Sprint: This is Really Fast…
This competition format is rarely used on the international level, but exists in the rules and is regularly conducted on the national level. The super sprint is halved in two brackets, the qualification and the final. The course length is always 800m.
The qualification is run off as a time trial with single starts, more or less the same as in the sprint. The total competition length is 2,4 km (three times 800m, with two shooting stages, prone and standing).
The best 30 athletes from the qualification then start simultaneously in the final and compete over 4 km (5 loops of 800m and 4 shooting stages, (prone, prone, standing, standing). In both the qualification and the final, three spare rounds can be used per bout, if the targets are not cleaned afterwards this means automatic disqualification of the athlete. There is no penalty loop foreseen for this competition in the current rules.
